About Our Grantmaking

The Elias Foundation will fund organizations that are working to create an equitable Westchester, to build social and economic justice, and to support self-directed advocacy through addressing our County’s social and economic disparities. During 2007 we provided grants to 21 organizations working in Westchester County to promote social change through community organizing.

Our grantees support community organizing/civic engagement and activist training in the under-resourced small cities and suburban communities of Westchester County. We view ourselves as working in alliance with our grantees, and believe that our geographical focus enables us to establish deep relationships that strengthen networks for progressive social change.

Organizations interested in requesting support from the Elias Foundation are asked to carefully consider how their programs align with the Foundation’s mission and goals. We welcome Letters of Intent only from organizations working in Westchester to mobilize the power of community, develop leaders, unite stakeholders and challenge existing systems. The Elias Foundation’s grants to organizations outside Westchester County are for the sole purpose of providing support and training for Westchester County-based organizations, and are by invitation only.

We look forward to building upon our grantmaking, identifying new grantees, and supporting progressive community organizing in 2008 and beyond.
